Engitec Technologies pursues the target of “zero operators on the floor” with lead ingot casting technology
In the field of large-scale nonferrous and ferrous metal production, the relationship between Operators and machinery has long been central to discussions around safety, quality, and productivity.
At the recent Pb2025 Lead Conference, hosted by the International Lead Association (ILA) in Amsterdam, Mr. Daniele Silla, Sales Area Manager at Engitec Technologies, presented the company’s advancements in automation and robotics to the distinguished audience. His focus: how Engitec Technologies studies and defines the improvements in automation system and robotization, to avoid human presence in operational areas where potential hazards may occur, while simultaneously increasing process reliability and consistency.
With specific reference to Engitec’s proprietary Ingot Casting Lines, available in capacities from 4.0 to 45.0 tph, attendance of Operators is only required for start-up and shutdown procedures, while all the operations are supervised by Engitec’s proprietary Integrated Control System (ENGI_ONE), which manages:
• Detection of non-demolded ingots • Surface and height verification of each ingot • Weighing and painting of bundles • Synchronization of metal flow rate with casting chain speed
The operations of skimming and stacking are performed by the latest generation robots according to pre-set production recipes. Marking is executed with laser technology, ensuring traceability and consistency throughout the entire production cycle.
Last, but not least, the removal of complete bundles can be performed by robotized overhead crane picking up bundles from the line and placing them precisely on the floor based on predefined recipes.
