Complex Plants for recovery of exhaust batteries, commissioned few decades back, may suffer so-called technical obsolescence which is the unlucky condition that may occur when a new technology supersedes the existing one, and it becomes preferable to use the new technology in place of the existing one, even if the old equipment or technology is still functional.

Such obsolescence might depend on so many factors. Just as example, the new and more stringent environmental norms and rules or, the change of scrapped batteries characteristics or, one more example, the necessity of having burners with dual fuel capability.
